Research on Legal & Policies

You can find introduction about the myth of Manus AI's model training, data privacy implications and copyrights in the Technical and Ethical dimension blogs.

Here are more thoughts and findings about it.

How Manus Protects Our Data and Privacy:

Manus makes a critical promise: "We do not process, disclose, or otherwise utilize your personal information for the development, training, or refinement of any artificial intelligence or machine learning models." This means our private chats, inputs, or generated content will not be used to train the core Manus system or its AI partners. They also "endeavour to disable third-party training on your data." Manus uses a data minimisation approach, meaning they only send "the information needed for a specific step" to their third-party AI partners and vendors. This limits the exposure of your overall data. In addition, they employ technical, organizational, and physical safeguards to protect the information they collect. For students and children, the service is not intended for anyone under 18, and they explicitly state they will delete or terminate accounts if they gain "actual knowledge" of a child using the service.

How Manus Necessarily Compromises Our Data and Privacy:

Our core interactions leave the Manus environment and enter a third-party system, even if Manus tries to limit the data shared. Manus does this by leveraging third-party AI models and tools. This means what we type or upload is transmitted to outside providers for processing. They collect all the standard types of data common to online services:

Information we provide: Name, email, password, payment data, and all our inputs, prompts, and content.

Automatic data collection: Data about the device, online activity (pages viewed, time spent), and how we interact with their emails.

Sharing with Vendors and Partners: They share our data with other third parties besides the AI providers, including:

Service Providers: For hosting, support, email, and analytics.

Payment Processors: Such as Stripe or RevenueCat, to handle transactions.

Advertising Partners: Like Google and LinkedIn, for marketing and ad performance, which they say is only done with your valid consent.

According to independent study (Shen et al, 2025), although Manus’s official documentation states a “zero-training commitment” (that user data are not used to train models), independent research has not yet confirmed this through audits or peer-reviewed studies. Technical blogs and user reports also highlight variable reliability and transparency. For educators, this means Manus can be a valuable experimental tool for quizzes and learning forums, but it should be used cautiously, without uploading identifiable student data and with ongoing attention to privacy and accuracy.
